Let's believe that you have taken an actionable goal to begin your ICAN journey. Now you need to get registered for the examination and start studying. This is a good start, but studying is hard, especially if you are working in an organisation. This article specifies the dos and don'ts to plan your study time.
How to register for ICAN
You can request registration from a tuition house. In this case, you will search for a tuition centre close to you or online, then let them know you want to register for ICAN as a student. They will charge the registration fee and an amount for processing it on your behalf.
You can also do it yourself! Here you go to the ICAN website to register for it. It's quite simple if you understand technology to some extent. I did my registration for ICAN myself and I also made payments for ICAN examinations.
Here is a link to begin your registration. Choose a new student registration in the ICAN portal. Follow the process and submit. Then make payment as required. After completing your registration, you will need to pay for an annual subscription and development levy.
How to plan your study timeline
Studying is hard but also rewarding. In fact, there is no way you can pass an ICAN exam in just two weeks. You need to start studying as early as possible. ICAN exams are usually in May and November every year. If you are writing for the May diet, then you should start reading by January 1st. If you're writing for the November examination, your best start time is July 1st. Although you can start earlier or a date in between.
Note that your studying will not be as smooth as you think. Although students of ICAN do tell us how they plan for their exams on LinkedIn, they always fail to explain how difficult it is. You may have a timetable for reading and default on some days because of one issue or the other.
Yes, during study periods, you may fall sick, and your job may be so demanding that you may need to do some work from home. This will affect your reading timetable. Therefore, you need to prepare your mind that these things are normal and don't give up on your reading.
Please, always make time to sleep. If possible sleep at least 4 to 8 hours daily. Some days, you choose sleep instead of reading because you need your sane mind to read well. If you're working class and also attending lectures for exams, it will be difficult for you to read during weekends. Because that's when you will be in classes listening and learning from your tutor. Therefore, you will rely mostly on evenings and nights on the weekends and nights during weekdays.
Actionable studying time
As a working class, my actional reading time is early morning and at the weekends. So, I set between 4am to 6am to read from Mondays to Sundays. Then, I set up a time to read in the early hours of the morning and evenings on Saturdays and Sundays. This can be between 6am to 12pm and 4pm to 9pm. For me, I don't attend lectures, that's why my timing is this way. You can also choose a time convenient for you.
Attending lectures is not a bad thing. It's better to do so so that you learn from experienced professionals. I also want to admit that I attended lectures for the Skill level to boost my motivation. This is because I haven't read for a long time. I needed a push to enable me to begin reading frequently.
